Editorial take

Two broken hands are a better engine than most Candy Shorts premises get. They explain why Jake is home, why someone is hired and why he depends on her for everything, and the free pair plays that dependence for comedy more than heat. Mila is written as competent first, a rarer choice than it should be.

The limits are built in. With the wife entirely absent, the only tension is between two people whose one possible objector is at work, and the tagline has already said where this heads. Five short episodes can hold a situation; whether they hold a story, we will know after the 36 tokens.

Mila, two episodes in, is why I would go back: calm, a little dry, in charge of the room without making a point of it; whether the paid half keeps her that way, I cannot say.
